Immigration is personal to me.
I lived abroad for some ten years both as a student and later professionally – including running my own business. During that time I held a variety of residence and work permits and made many trips to the consulate with my children to have their U.S. citizenship recognized, apply for passports, etc.. Upon returning to the U.S., we went through the immigration process here ultimately obtaining lawful permanent resident status for my wife. In other words, I’ve been on both sides – as a permanent resident in a foreign country and obtaining that status for my wife here. This gives me keen insight into both the emotional and legal issues that arise during the immigration process.
